Susan Jane Jewellery

I did some time as a carnie, and let’s be honest I probably will again one day, because the people are so interesting! In our stores at Factory 1, the old Peters Factory, we sold our wares 3 days a week to visitors from all around. Sometimes… often we just chatted about how great our businesses could be if only there were customers!! #marketlife

One of my favourite people was Susan Jane, a lovely lady with an incredible talent for tiny things. Her style is a cross between 50’s glam rock n roll and modern rockabilly. She wanted a logo and business card where an object was visible in negative space with filigree pattern all around & a little bird. The business cards were to double as tags and cards for earrings and necklaces and rings, so needed to have a simple back with mostly white space.

“That’s impossible” I scoffed at the negative space filigree concept. I started placing some elements in illustrator to see how dense the pattern would need to be for the heart to be obvious. The below is the finished product which is now in use across the social media accounts and printed tags of Susan Jane Jewellery. The business now pops up at markets and festivals all around, sometimes taking the stock on a road trip!
